It is a versatile, lightweight aggregate made by heating clay to temperatures of around 1200°C (2192°F) in a rotary kiln, which causes it to expand due to the generation of gases within the clay. This expansion results in a porous structure with a hard shell that makes it highly suitable for various horticultural, hydroponic, and construction applications.
